Entry: My little tin box Wednesday, October 25, 2006

Everyone has a little box filled with stashed away birthday cards, old crispy letters, bookmarks, small gizmos (I keep all the watches that my Dad gave me and I even keep my old pager... Yep! It's one hell of an antique already...) and truckloads of memories... And so, instead of studying (Gawd.. my exams start tomorrow), there I was taking out every single card and letter that I've ever recieved and started reading all of them. Many were from penpals that I have long stopped contacting... many were from old classmates writing silly letters to each other... some were love letters written by secret admirers and a certain old flame... And while reading all of these all over again, memories just flood back instantaneously. And for a good hour, I sat alone in my room smiling to myself, laughing out loud at times, and at other moments let out sighs.. When I was done, I placed all these back into my little tin box and stashed it away again to collect dust.

I realised, it's been a long since I last contributed anything into my tin box. And it's been an even longer time since I last wrote letters to a friend or to a loved one. Hell, I've never even written a love letter to Big. And then I couldn't help but wonder, is the age of writing love letters truly over? I wonder to myself, do people still write love letters, and if they do, are they writing love emails? I must admit, looking at my love letters of the past, they are incredibly mushy (they made me nausea) but then again, they were incredibly thoughtful as well because when you write such letters, you are letting the other know how you feel. Words may be insignificant but they go a loooooong way. Looking back, I'm amazed that Big and I have never gone down that path. We don't exchange love letters... we have never even exchanged lovey-dovey smses... hell, he has never even said he loves me (except only once... but that was because I forced him).

Oh well, just food for thought here. Maybe it's time to stop typing and start writing. May not be efficient but at least it's more fulfulling, don't you think?
And so, for those of you have a little box of your own, go do yourself a favour and go rake up some good old nostalgia...
And for those who don't, what the hell are you waiting for? Go get one already!
